TMB FINANCIAL LITERACY WORKSHOP
We are dedicated to preparing Project-Affected People (PAPs) for the economic opportunities that the KMTR project will introduce to the region. In collaboration with Trust Merchant Bank (TMB), we hosted the first financial literacy workshop at the University of Technology in Kasenga. To ensure PAPs’ livelihoods are improved as a result of the project, financial literacy training is critical. This workshop equips PAPs with the knowledge and skills needed to manage their finances effectively, thereby enhancing their economic resilience and stability.
During the workshop, participants received new phones and personal SIM card registrations to mitigate the risk of identity fraud. TMB agents registered over 100 community members for mobile bank accounts and provided demonstrations on how to securely access and manage funds. Access to a real banking platform, as opposed to telecommunication-based mobile money, ensures participation in the formal economy.
Promoting financial literacy in developing countries is crucial. It improves access to finance and savings, supports livelihoods, boosts economic growth, strengthens financial systems, and helps reduce poverty. Recognizing the economic stimulus the project brings, we are committed to driving financial literacy and banking accessibility in the region.
