Lusaka, Republic of Zambia, July 15 – 17 – Government representatives from the Republic of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo met alongside GED Africa Ltd, Duna Aszfalt Zrt and key technical partners earlier this week for a three-day bilateral discussion to advance the Kasomeno-Mwenda Toll Road project.
This bilateral engagement underscored the key elements of the design and flow of the one-stop border post (OSBP) as well as the tolling plazas.
The programme commenced with Klaus Findt, the CEO of GED Africa Ltd, providing an update on the construction. The 184 km Kasomeno-Mwenda road, being built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is on schedule and the OSBP and toll plazas are expected to be completed before December 2026.
Hamed Javaheri from Rankin Engineering Consultants, the employer’s representative, and Jean-Eric Benoit from Egis Operations S.A.S, the operations and maintenance operator on the project, presented on the proposed design and flow of the OSBP and toll plaza’s.
Discussions continued on the final day with representatives from the Zambian Road Development Agency, the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development and the Congolese Agence Congolaise des Grands Travaux and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works. The discussions pertained to the finalisation of the operations manual of the OSBP and the temporary border crossing at Chalwe.
The three-day bilateral session demonstrated the commitment of all stakeholders to ensuring the project’s success and its impact on the economic development of the region.
